13 questions to ponder from Acts

by Mike Vandermause on September 12, 2020

28 chapters. 3 months. 13 sermons.

We examined the book of Acts this summer in the sermon series
"And Then What Happened" and came away with a number of compelling questions pertaining to the spiritual journey of Christ followers.

Read this week-by-week sermon series review and prayerfully answer each of the 13 questions:

Week 1 (Acts 1-2)
Holy Spirit power transforms by making a difference in your life and changing you. How are you being transformed spiritually?

Week 2 (Acts 3-4)
God has called all believers to ministry, which means service. What does your ministry look like right now?

Week 3 (Acts 5)
Don’t put on a performance to look spiritual, which is hypocritical. A heart that is grabbed by the Holy Spirit is full of compassion, willing to proclaim the hope of Jesus, seeking to obey God, and committed to God’s plan. What’s the condition of your heart?

Week 4 (Acts 6-7)
We are either surrendering to God’s plan like the martyr Stephen or picking up stones and chucking them at people. We are either dividing or uniting, self-filled or spirit-filled, resisting or receiving the Holy Spirit, shouting or listening. What story is your life telling?

Week 5 (Acts 8)
After Stephen’s death the gospel is proclaimed. Saving belief always rests in the good news of Jesus. It’s not about changing someone’s behavior. It’s about trusting in Jesus’ death and resurrection, which conquered sin and death. Do you believe in Jesus as your savior?

Week 6 (Acts 9)
You receive a calling. God has placed you somewhere to share Jesus. God puts you in your home, neighborhood, city. Do people know that Jesus changed you?

Week 7 (Acts 10-12)
God gives us the ability to live in freedom. Jesus breaks the chains of legalism, exclusionism, favoritism and sin. Are you letting go of your chains?

Week 8 (Acts 13-16)
Ministry is costly. It will always have opposition. It involves verbalizing the good news of Jesus. It will bring difficulty, hardship and pain. But the reward is so much greater than the cost. Are you picking up the towel and serving?

Week 9 (Acts 17-19)
Spiritual influence is a Holy Spirit power that changes and uses a person to look like Jesus for others to see. Influence moves toward unreached people, comes out of intentional effort and bears lasting fruit. Are you influencing others with the story of Jesus?

Week 10 (Acts 20-21)
Don’t get distracted by voices in our world and look to the left or right for answers. Look up and gain perspective from heaven. A spiritual mindset compels us to follow Holy Spirit leadings, care for the body of Christ and practice giving above receiving. Do you have a spiritual mindset?

Week 11 (Acts 22-23)
May you embrace the story God is writing in your life. Your life is a letter that is being written and the world is waiting to read it. Are you ready to follow God’s assignment in your life?

Week 12 (Acts 24-26)
As Christ followers we live in one kingdom (this world) but are serving another kingdom (God’s eternal kingdom) — one kingdom we live in and the other we live for. Which king are you serving?

Week 13 (Acts 27-28)
Despite the storms and shipwrecks we face, our call and mission is to continue proclaiming Jesus in and through our lives. How will you respond to that call?
