God has an assignment for you

by Mike Vandermause on August 26, 2020

Are you ready to follow God’s assignment in your life?

Pastor Troy Murphy asked that question during his message on Sunday, August 23, when he examined Acts 22 & 23.

What is your story, and are you allowing God to write it? May you embrace the story God is writing in your life.

Troy asked some key questions during his message:

Are you able to tell His story in your story?

Your life is a letter that is being written (2 Corinthians 3.2-3). You have a story and the world is waiting to hear that story.

Nothing in this world will change a heart — leaders, legislation, political parties, governments, vaccines. Only Jesus can change a heart.

Too many of us are trying to be in control of our story. Instead, we need to give control to God. Our story should reflect how our lives are being transformed by Jesus. Can you tell Jesus’ story in yours?

Our stories can and will get messy, which points to the power of Christ to bring redemption. We should be willing to reveal the bad parts of our story. Psalm 107.2 says: Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story.

Are you able to face rejection?

You will face rejection when you tell your story. But our responsibility is to tell it anyway. How it’s received is not our responsibility. Our role is to scatter the gospel seed by telling our story in love, and then let God make things grow.

Are you able to give a defense of the hope within you?

Your role is to tell your story in love and give defense of the hope in you. You are defending what Jesus has done in your life and how he has changed you. (1 Peter 3.14-16)

Your role is not to defend Jesus. God doesn’t need you to defend him. Nothing in this world will knock God off the throne, yet we operate as if that will happen. God is perfectly capable of defending himself. If someone wants to slander or reject God, that is on them.

Unfortunately Christ followers often model a very judgmental, non-loving spirit. We grab our sword and feel we have to battle against the evil world around us. In fact, we are called to defend the hope of Christ in us.

Do you have courage?

Discouragement is normal. Paul got discouraged. When bad stuff happens, we must remember that God is probably up to something. It’s a set-up to bring glory to Him. He will use our trials for a greater purpose. Like Paul, be ready for whatever comes your way and view it through God’s eyes.
