Jeremy Cowart returning to GBCC

by Green Bay Community Church on December 08, 2018

Jeremy Cowart, who will be the guest speaker at Community Church on Sunday, December 9, is an artist at his core.

He started as a painter, then founded his own graphic design company and eventually discovered photography was his true passion. In 2005 he switched to photography full-time and has never looked back.

We spoke with Jeremy the last time he was at GBCC in December 2016. Here are some highlights from that conversation:

*On his story: "I think my story is proof that truly anything is possible. The point of my story is to illustrate that through God all things are possible. I think everyone can identify with the words 'I can’t' because we all have our insecurities and doubts. My life was full of 'I can’t' but through one thing after another I realized that truly we can do anything we want to do."

*On doubt: "I still deal with it. I always have doubts and struggle with insecurities. It’s something that comes with the territory of being an artist and pursuing dreams. I also know I can overcome those due to what I have already seen in my lifetime. If you are going to be creative and pursue dreams, then doubt and fear is always going to be your buddy at your side."

*On how people can overcome their fears: "Breaking the cycle of fear can be so many different things but for me it’s really about momentum. Just one step at a time. Climb that first rung of the ladder and keep going."

*On serving a greater purpose beyond yourself: "I achieved what I thought was my ideal career. I achieved what the culture would assume is greatness but I realized it’s all very fulfilling but if I can use greatness to serve others, aka to serve a greater purpose, then that’s really what we all should be striving toward."

*On the impact of his brother’s unexpected death: "As morbid as it is to say, I literally think about death on a daily basis. I feel like I’m so lucky to be breathing, to have health, to have a family to love. I just realized that life can be taken from us at any moment. I would definitely say my brother’s death had a huge impact on that thinking.
