Jesus said in John 14:23: "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.” Obedience is an outpouring of our love for our savior, not a to-do list to impress God or others.
There is a strong connection between love and obedience. Our faith is so much more than following a set of rules and laws. The motivation of Christ followers isn’t to engage in obedience out of obligation, but rather to pursue a love relationship with their creator.
Contrary to conventional thinking, we can find freedom in true obedience to God, whereas sin and disobedience leads us into bondage.
Jesus said in Luke 10:27: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind.”
His words suggest a love relationship with God is significant, and our motivation to obey goes beyond fear or reverence.
If we truly love God, we will gladly and enthusiastically obey Him.
