Ripple prayer journey

One of the compelling truths of the Ripple project is that it reflects the legacy of Green Bay Community Church and propels it forward to further draw us into relationships that allow us to truly Connect, Belong and Grow together.

We invite you to join our church leaders and our church family in a 42-day prayer journey.  When we look at the plans for our church we are awed and inspired in the many areas we will see God at work in the lives of people in our community.

Our challenge is to pray as a body of believers.  We want to truly sit and meditate on God’s promises and the call to serve those with needs in our community.

As you progress through the days there will be a Bible verse to focus on.  Please reflect God’s truth into the plan before us.  We desire to pray over and hold up the plans for this campus.

Pray for the repurposing to make a positive impact for the Kingdom of Christ in the areas of Children, Family, Teaching, Physical Needs and Community Outreach through sports, provision of needs and relationship building.

Thank you for joining us to pray for God’s guidance and provision for Ripple.  We hope that you will be part of something life changing for our church and community.

Day 42: The joy of cheerful giving

Our opportunity

Community Church has given $442,606 over the past five years to GO department events, benevolence and other needs in the community. GBCC encourages a culture of giving, and 70% of our attenders are regular contributors, a percentage well above the national average for churches. As a church we take 10% of what we receive and give it back to the community.

Our direction

2 Corinthians 9: 6-7 — Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Our value

Learning to give of what we have been given is a response of those who have come to know God personally and his great love. Giving generously is an act of worship that proclaims trust in God for future provision. At Community Church attenders  practice faithful giving to the local church that we call “first fruits,” the first portion of anything received. The Bible gives several examples of people choosing to give God this first portion, trusting that he will provide the rest to meet their needs. As a church, we take 10% of this giving and put it toward the GO budget, in which we are giving and partnering with outside organizations or individuals that are in alignment with our vision, mission and values.

Our prayer

God, help us to remember that everything we have comes from you. May we be good stewards of the blessings you have provided. Let your Holy Spirit continue to move in our hearts and make us cheerful and generous givers. We ask for your blessing on the Ripple Initiative. Bring forth the financial contributions that are needed to make it a reality. Let the vision of the Ripple project, which is to make the name of Jesus and his great love known throughout the Green Bay area, resonate in the hearts of men and women who are called to give of their resources.

Day 41: Experiencing God's love together

Our opportunity

Approximately 120,000 people walked through the Green Bay Community Church doors in 2014, more than the entire population of Green Bay. That number reflects attendance at Sunday services, weekly classes and groups, special events and community programs.

Our direction

Matthew 22: 37-39 — Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

Our value

We desire to share the hope of Jesus Christ with all people in the Green Bay area and walk with them as they become members of the spiritual family. In that process we are a transforming community of families that are loving God and others. When disciples of Jesus gather we are promised that He is present. In His presence we seek direction and encouragement from each other. We are a community where people can hear God’s truth, experience his love and grace and respond to him with freedom. The Ripple Initiative will enable us to grow as a church body and reach even more people with the gospel message.

Our prayer

Lord, thank you that so many people can gather together at Community Church. Help us to reach our goal of creating more spaces and opportunities to share the hope of Christ through the Ripple Initiative. Thank you for creating us in your image. May we reflect your love as we relate to others. Let your Holy Spirit move in our hearts so that as Christ followers we have a desire to serve others. We are grateful for the gifts you have given each of us. Help us to take those gifts and live out our faith. May everyone who enters GBCC feel welcome and loved, and may your presence be evident to them. Allow more people to come through our doors in the coming year, and as we serve them may your name be glorified.

Day 40: Making the most of what we have

Our opportunity

The Community Church facility features 107,000 square feet of space standing on 34 acres. The original structure that opened in 1997 was 45,000 square feet but there were two subsequent additions that included classrooms and a chapel. Our facility was built on farmland that was previously earmarked for educational purposes.

Our direction

1 Peter 2:5 — You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Our value

The church is not defined by four walls and is made up of the people that actively participate with each other in the body of Christ. Together we want to make the most of our land and campus facility, which is located in a growing area of Howard where a village center will be built on the other side of Cardinal Lane. Our goal is to open more physical space within and around our facility to attract people and keep them on campus to encourage deeper community. We know that if we can draw friends and families to our campus we can begin to develop relationships and prayerfully share our lives with them. We want to continue the tradition of using our space for educational purposes, namely giving people in the Green Bay area the knowledge of the gospel along with spiritual wisdom and guidance.

Our prayer

Father, thank you for the people who make up our church body, and thank you for blessing us with a facility that can be used for such a wide variety of functions that serve our church family and also the community. We are grateful for the men and women that possessed the foresight to build this facility and positioned us now to make an even greater impact for the cause of Christ. We pray that you would bless the Ripple Initiative and allow us to expand our opportunities to serve more people in the community and spread the gospel message to a wider audience in the Green Bay area. Thank you that our facility is debt free. Remind us daily that our hope to proceed with Ripple is dependent on your favor.

Day 39: Nurturing children

Our opportunity

In addition to Sunday morning children’s classes, Community Church offers care for children throughout the week. Not including walk-ins, a total of 94 children receive care from a staff of volunteers and paid leads for Tuesday Care Night, Wednesday Night Connect, Wednesday Women’s Bible Study and Thursday Moppets. Childcare is also provided for one-time events such as  Family Life conferences or Leadership Launch.

Our direction

Psalm 127:3-5 -- Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.

Our value

The GBCC nursery is a warm, nurturing environment designed for children from birth to age three. We consider each child a blessing from God and strive to provide a safe, loving environment for the youngest members of our church family. Each room is staffed with a paid childcare worker and volunteers who love children and are committed to sharing God's love with them. Fun activities, crafts, Bible stories and worship time are part of the curriculum to help children believe that God loves them. Providing quality childcare is important and a great benefit for parents who participate in church-related activities during the week. The Ripple Initiative will expand our children’s area and allow us to serve more kids.

Our prayer

God, thank you for the joy and blessing of children. It is a privilege to have so many opportunities to care for little ones at Community Church. Thank you for the many willing adults who get involved with our kids. May the childcare workers continue to display Christ’s love by the tender and heartfelt ways they interact with children. Give the parents who leave their kids with us a chance to grow spiritually through the classes they are able to take.

Sign up for a Ripple information meeting scheduled on Thursday, March 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the GBCC Arts Center.
