Day 36: Sports on our campus

Posted on

Our opportunity

The Bay Port High School girls soccer team has on occasion used the Community Church gym for indoor practice to combat the Wisconsin climate during the wet spring months. There is a serious shortage of indoor soccer facilities in the Green Bay area, which is one of the reasons the proposed Ripple Initiative includes a fieldhouse that could serve the community sports needs as well as be used as an auditorium for large church gatherings.

Our direction

Matthew 5:16 — Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Our value

One of the goals of the Ripple Initiative is to provide a campus that meets the immediate needs of the surrounding community. A large indoor fieldhouse would attract hundreds of people to our facility. The Howard based United Hurricanes soccer club serves more than 1,000 children and requires 16 hours per week of indoor practice time during the months of January to April. There are seven other soccer clubs in the Brown County area that serve an additional 1,800 players. As the Howard soccer club reserves gym time, it is competing with other winter sports and community clubs — basketball, softball, baseball and scouts — that also need indoor facilities.

Our prayer

Lord, make it our desire to meet both spiritual and physical needs in our community. We want to make Community Church a destination for hundreds of youth sports enthusiasts. Allow us to develop relationships with the people who might not otherwise come to our campus. May we display the love of Jesus to those who enter our building, and may they go away knowing that there’s something remarkable about Christ followers because of what you are doing through us. We place the goal of building a fieldhouse that serves the community in your hands and know that only you can make it happen.
