Day 42: The joy of cheerful giving

Posted on

Our opportunity

Community Church has given $442,606 over the past five years to GO department events, benevolence and other needs in the community. GBCC encourages a culture of giving, and 70% of our attenders are regular contributors, a percentage well above the national average for churches. As a church we take 10% of what we receive and give it back to the community.

Our direction

2 Corinthians 9: 6-7 — Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Our value

Learning to give of what we have been given is a response of those who have come to know God personally and his great love. Giving generously is an act of worship that proclaims trust in God for future provision. At Community Church attenders  practice faithful giving to the local church that we call “first fruits,” the first portion of anything received. The Bible gives several examples of people choosing to give God this first portion, trusting that he will provide the rest to meet their needs. As a church, we take 10% of this giving and put it toward the GO budget, in which we are giving and partnering with outside organizations or individuals that are in alignment with our vision, mission and values.

Our prayer

God, help us to remember that everything we have comes from you. May we be good stewards of the blessings you have provided. Let your Holy Spirit continue to move in our hearts and make us cheerful and generous givers. We ask for your blessing on the Ripple Initiative. Bring forth the financial contributions that are needed to make it a reality. Let the vision of the Ripple project, which is to make the name of Jesus and his great love known throughout the Green Bay area, resonate in the hearts of men and women who are called to give of their resources.
