Is the Bible part of your lifestyle?

by Mike Vandermause on August 27, 2018

Why and how do we make Bible reading a part of our lifestyle as Christ followers? Pastor Troy Murphy answered  those questions during his message on Sunday at Community Church. Here are some highlights:

*The Bible provides us with God’s truth to help us navigate our world, and we renew our minds by reading the Bible.

*We become the walking testimony and the expression of Jesus to the world by reading the Bible regularly.

*When reading a scripture passage we need to put it in context by asking the following questions: Who? When? Where? What? Why? How?

*We are not to simply read God’s word (James 1.22-25). We are supposed to do what it says.

*To make Bible reading a part of your lifestyle:

1-Get a Bible.

2-Create a reading plan (the YouVersion app is highly recommended).

3-Make an appointment with God regularly, whether it’s early in the morning or before you go to bed or sometime in between. It’s important to schedule time with God.

*Get into a group so you can dialog with others about scripture passages. Getting feedback from other believers is extremely helpful and insightful. If you read the Bible in isolation it won’t be as beneficial.

Discussion questions

How often to you make an appointment with God?

What would it take for you to read the Bible more often?

What Bible reading plan do you follow? What would you like to read next?

How often do you discuss Bible passages with other believers? How could you make that happen more frequently?
