The previous owners of our home left one lonely plant on the counter -- a simple waxy vine that was easy to care for, and we didn’t give it much thought.
A few years later, we remodeled our sunroom, added a couple skylights, and gathered most of the plants to that room. Soon, the vine had sprouted several new shoots and the leaves became more lustrous.
One day I was pleasantly surprised to see the plant had bloomed! In the middle of its healthy, waxy leaves was a large cluster with dozens of perfect white stars. In the center of each five-point star was another five-point star, surrounding yet another five-point star with vibrant, rosy trim. In the very center was a glistening droplet of nectar. I immediately thanked God for creating this beautiful surprise and including the enchanting details.
In all the years the plant was in the other room we had never known its potential. But now in the right environment, it thrived and its intricate beauty burst forth.
It didn’t take long for the plant to triple in size. It bloomed again and there were several clusters, and the next year, several more. In all the years of living in the other room, it had barely changed. But now it was a prolific, blooming jungle plant!
Just as this plant came alive in the right surroundings, I know God is guiding each of us to the right environments where we can grow and flourish. How beautiful that He created each of us uniquely, and how wonderful that He knows how to bring out the best in each one.
What if we stayed where we were and didn’t trust Him to guide us to a new place of growth? What if we never learned what we could become?
God, our Magnificent Creator, guide us to your plan! Don’t let us stay dormant, complacent or “safe.” Instead, let us trust you to bring out the lavish growth that is possible. You know the flourish you have in mind.
