Day 14: Yielding a bountiful harvest

Posted on

Our opportunity

A total of $58,840 in produce was harvested from the GBCC community gardens plot in 2014, the highest among any of the sites in the county program.

Our direction

Psalm 67:6 — The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us.

Our value

An open field behind Community Church is designated for a garden that is divided into small plots. We partner with the University of Wisconsin Extension to find individuals and families who don’t have the land to grow their own fruits and vegetables. The site where GBCC stands was once a farmer’s field, and we are grateful that with the large plot of land on our campus, we can pass along that blessing to members of the community.

Our prayer

God, we’re grateful for the campus and land you have blessed us with. Allow us to continue to use what you have so generously provided to help others in our community. Allow more families to have access to our land so they can harvest more nutritious and less costly food. Let the garden also be a gathering place for families and friends to engage in intergenerational and cross-cultural social interaction.
