Day 20: Serving one another

Posted on

Our opportunity

Three times a year the GBCC GO department sponsors Saturday Serve opportunities in the community. Approximately 60 people donate three hours on a Saturday to work at St. John’s Shelter, House of Hope, Kingdom Come Food Pantry or Freedom House.  Each site is managed by a volunteer team leader who works with the facility to determine the work project for the volunteers. In January 2015 more than 67 volunteers participated and put in a total of over 200 hours.

Our direction

1 Peter 4:10-11 — As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies — in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Our value

Our GO area finds local opportunities to serve within our church family and greater community.  We know that we are called to reach out to others and Saturday Serve provides opportunities for us to serve locally. The Ripple Initiative will generate more chances to touch our community with the love of Christ.

Our prayer

God, we pray that you are glorified in the places that we serve.  Thank you for the local opportunities that you provide to serve others.  Please continue to open our eyes to the needs of others, and provide the helpers to make a positive difference in Your name.  Help us to be a light that shines in our local communities.
