Day 37: Serving out of gratitude

Posted on

Our opportunity

Sunday mornings at Community Church require the efforts of 130 volunteers in multiple areas including our children’s ministry, music and tech teams, and guest services area for  ushers, greeters and baristas.

Our direction

Mark 10: 43-45 — Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant., and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Our value

The motivation for serving should not stem from guilt, or from trying to please God by engaging in religious activities. Instead, when we enter into a relationship with Jesus, there is the promise that He will invade our life with the Holy Spirit. We should have a desire out of gratitude for what Jesus did for us to serve Him and others. Attending church is more than walking into a building and checking a box. Christ followers are called to take ownership and get involved. The Ripple Initiative will expand opportunities to serve at Community Church and allow more people to use their gifts for God’s glory.

Our prayer

God, give each one of us a servant’s heart. May we daily seek to love you and others by our actions. Thank you for the multitude of volunteers at GBCC, and we ask that you would continue to bless us with devoted and committed Christ followers who are the lifeblood of our church. Our prayer for anyone who hasn't stepped forward yet is that your Holy Spirit would move in their hearts and open their eyes to the joy, peace and satisfaction that comes with serving.
